As a Scientific Illuminator, Maati uses writing, facilitation, and visualization to bridge the gap between science and people. As a science writer, she locates novel findings, identifies key details, interprets complex ideas, and communicates an impactful narrative that honors both audience and subject. She has lead student groups of all ages in a variety of contexts, facilitating understanding by encouraging curiosity, explaining difficult concepts, and using art and inventive experimentation to visualize and drive home concepts. She is also the founding editor-in-chief of Harvard Science in the News (SITN) En Español, an initiative which seeks to increase the reach and accessibility of SITN by translating new and existing articles into Spanish. She believes lasting global solutions need enhanced interdisciplinary, intercultural, and interlingual communication and collaboration, and she aims to inspire and connect people to one another for maximized mutual benefit.
