Celebrating Isabel Allende’s Legacy: A Girls Write Now and Barbie Partnership
Barbie celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the changemakers whose stories helped shape the world and continue to inspire generations.
In tribute to the newest honoree in the Barbie Inspiring Women line, writer Isabel Allende, Barbie is donating $25,000 to Girls Write Now to help the next generation write their own stories.
The Barbie Dream Gap Project and Girls Write Now will also host a series of events beginning in Hispanic Heritage Month to spark discussion, creativity, and connection for girls directly with their role models.
Thursday, October 3, 6-7 PM ET, A Celebration of Isabel Allende: This Hispanic Heritage Month, join us in celebration of the phenomenal Chilean writer and journalist, Isabel Allende! In collaboration with Mattel, we will welcome Barbie’s Signature Inspiring Women Isabel Allende doll!
With the help of Johanna Castillo, Isabel Allende’s agent, we will explore her life, her foundation, and her literary achievements. In her honor we will write in community using writing prompts inspired by her life and her work!

In collaboration with Mattel, we’ll take you behind the scenes to discover how this extraordinary line of dolls was created, focusing on the selection of iconic figures like Isabel Allende and Bessie Coleman.
We’ll delve into the power of writers as role models, the importance of highlighting BIPOC and immigrant voices, and the value of giving back to our communities.
