
Welcome to Independent Study!
In the one-cycle Independent Study course, we’ll explore scheduling tools, time management strategies, and techniques to reduce distractions and procrastination. You’ll also strengthen your critical reading, annotation, and note-taking skills to support both academic and creative work. This course lays the groundwork for a successful and self-directed journey.

At the end of this course, participants will have:
- Created a productive, and distraction-free work space
- Developed SMART Goals
- Implemented a robust scheduling system
- Practiced good time management skills
- Developed analytical skills for project development
Requirements
- Complete at least 2 pair sessions per month and log these in your Portal
- Attend at least one community event per month (see Engagement Dates )
- Complete all lessons in this course
- Submit at least one piece of any medium or genre through the Submissions section in the Portal

Attend at least one community event a month. You can choose from Community studios, Career chats, Friday Night Salons, Community Conversations, and more. Check the Events Page in your portal for information on upcoming live events.

Independent Study (Summer 2025)
In this course, Mentees will build the essential habits and systems needed to thrive in an independent learning environment. You’ll learn how to create a productive study space, set SMART goals, and use visualization and reflection to stay motivated.
Submissions
You are required to submit one piece of any genre in order to successfully complete the Independent Study Course. As a mentee in the Independent Study Journey, you get the chance to create your own project from start to finish! Over the three-month cycle, you’ll choose something you’re passionate about, something that inspires you, challenges you, or helps you grow, and you’ll turn it into a final piece to share at the Final Showcase.
