In this mini course, you’ll dive into the history of stand-up comedy, break down what makes the genre unique, learn how to turn everyday moments into punchlines, and draft your own original sets.

- Personalize Your Creative Journey: Tailor your learning experience to your individual goals and projects across genres and media.
Stand-Up Comedy Writing Mini-Course Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will have:
- Learned the basics of stand-up comedy, the history of stand-up, and stand-up comedy types
- Gained an understanding of stand-up comedy’s potential as a tool for activism and awareness around pertinent social issues and learned what NOT to do in stand-up comedy
- Attained an understanding of how to engage an audience in stand-up
- Learned about stand-up comedy’s capacity for social emotional processing and wellness
- Thought through the written structure of a joke and began to write their own jokes
Requirements
- Complete at least 2 pair sessions per month and log these in your Portal
- Attend at least one Community Experience per month (see Engagement Dates )
- Complete all lessons and assignments of at least two mini online Explore Tour courses (see Asynchronous Coursework )
- Submit at least one piece through the Submissions section in the Portal to be published on your Author Page
Engagement Dates
In the Explore Tour Journey you are required to attend at least one community event a month. You can choose from events such as Community Studios, Affinity Groups, Career Chats, Friday Night Salons, Community Conversations, and more. To find out more about upcoming events check girlswritenow.org/events and visit the Events Page in your Portal to register for upcoming live events.

Submissions
You are required to submit one piece of any genre through your portal by the end of the cycle in order to successfully complete the Explore Tour Journey. To meet the submission requirement for the Explore Tour Course, go to your Portal and select “Submissions”.
