virtual event; open to all mentees, mentors, mentee alum, staff, volunteers, and board members
August means back to school, and all the feelings that come with it. This November is also election season, and we want to hear from you about how politics, protests, and social issues have affected your experiences in high school, college, and beyond. Join us for an open and compassionate Community Conversation all about campus during an election year.
We’ll connect with one another through a discussion about writing as a form of resistance and the ways we can uplift one another to create spaces of hope and joy in classrooms, on campus, at work, and in other parts of our lives.
In the lead up to our conversation, we are curating a story collection to include as many diverse perspective as possible. You can write as much or as little as you like (or make a short audio or video recording). To participate, respond to one of the following prompts:
1. As we go back to campus and school during election season, how are you feeling? What has been your experience on campus with regards to politics, student protests, and social issues? Write a short piece or record a short audio or video clip talking about your experience.
2. Writing has often been used as a form of resistance. What does writing as resistance mean to you? You can also share a piece of writing or art that functions as a form of protest.
If you are interested in being part of Girls Write Now’s DEIB advisory body, Intersectional Voices in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (IVDEIB), please complete the form below. The diverse perspectives of IVDEIB will inform and make recommendations to leadership on key issues that impact our community.
