About the Event

This studio will be exploring various styles of and topics in journalism, including profile writing, personal essays, cultural criticism, and more. Community studio participants will be able to learn different techniques, try out different styles, and discover how there’s a wide range of ways to be a journalist or incorporate journalism into your writing life.

This month, we’ll be teaching studio participants the components of a persuasive opinion article, including clearly stating a thesis or argument about a particular issue they care about and then backing it up with evidence, such as facts or their personal experiences with the issue. Then, they’ll have the chance to start crafting their own opinion piece, using what they learned to draft the first few paragraphs, before sharing their work with each other.
