SUMMARY:HarperCollins Virtual Open House
DESCRIPTION:Girls Write Now has enjoyed working with the incredible employees at HarperCollins over the years\, and now we offer even more exciting ways to get involved that fit your interests\, goals—and your busy schedule. \nCurious about mentoring? Join us for a half-hour virtual Open House on Wednesday\, April 15\, 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM ET in which you’ll hear about the benefits of becoming a mentor—participating in a multigenerational community and building skills while making a tangible difference in the lives of emerging young writers and leaders. Through practical\, creative curriculum\, participants sharpen writing\, speaking\, and narrative skills that directly support leadership\, collaboration\, and clarity in any role. The experience offers structured creative time—three hours a month—to recharge\, reflect\, express yourself\, and reconnect with what feels energizing and purposeful. You’ll also learn how you can parachute in for one-hour focused sessions in an area of your expertise\, according to your schedule\, to meet the needs of a variety of mentees. \nGWN is a nationally award-winning nonprofit\, media brand\, and multi-generational community. For nearly three decades\, we have broken down the barriers of gender\, age\, race\, and poverty to mentor\, teach\, and connect writers and leaders across disciplines and around the nation. \nThis event is open to HarperCollins Employees only.

SUMMARY:Pink Collar Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Pink Collar Comedy takes career readiness to hilarious places as we use the foundations of comedy to develop career and life skills like communication\, resilience\, and reflection to prepare young adults for the workforce. Throughout the sessions participants will learn how to joke their way into a job\, the power of improvisation in team environments\, and what to do when hecklers are in the office. \nThis session\, “Every Huddle is an Improv Opportunity\,” helps participants build teamwork muscles for the workplace based on the improv techniques of active listening\, “Yes\, and\,” and committing to the bit. Participants should leave with the confidence to navigate interpersonal communication in professional settings.

SUMMARY:Intersectional Voices in Print Editorial
DESCRIPTION:The Committee on Intersectional Voices in Print Editorial (I.V. Edit Print) focuses on traditional print media at Girls Write Now. This committee is dedicated to producing the yearly anthology that showcases the written work of Girls Write Now mentees. The goal is to provide a tangible platform for storytelling\, allowing community members to see their work in print and share it with a wider audience. Participants in this group also learn all the steps of the publishing process\, including concept development\, manuscript preparation\, design\, printing\, and distribution. \nThe Anthology Committee is now poised to edit submissions from the Girls Write Now community. This is our favorite time of the year and you’ll learn how to edit stories using Chicago Style Manual\, which is a great skill to hone! We’ll share the Foreword and Intro (last year it was written by Wicked’s co-writer Winnie Holzman!) and mentees and mentors will read their latest stories.

SUMMARY:Creating Through Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:Our studio focuses on the use of creative arts during times of uncertainty\, namely\, how individuals can harness the uplifting power of creation when dealing with life’s challenges. In this way\, the creative arts may work in conjunction with the promotion of mental\, emotional\, and overall personal well being. The creative arts of choice for our three studios will include: poetry\, fine arts/visual arts\, and auditory expression. \nOur objective during this studio is to give an insight about how scriptwriting can be used to introduce theatre life. Following this\, participants will engage in writing in a theatrical sense along with having a discussion about how theatre is used during times of difficulties.
