Zines
Earlier this year, mentees and mentors published our first edition of Girls Write Now’s zine, Take Me With You. They wrote based on the theme of “underground” and shared stories, poems, art, and ideas that serve to form and inspire community. For the second issue of Take Me With You mentors and mentees focused on food and culture. They created pieces that celebrate the interconnection between our lived experiences, the food we make and eat, and the people around us who share recipes, meals, and their lives with us. They created pieces that embrace the complexity we sometimes feel about food and culture—what battles are we asked to fight with food in our world today? What challenges do we face when we boldly embrace our culture?
Podcasts
As a community of storytellers, we expand into the realm of audio with podcasts, including Writing Our Way to Wellness, Speaking in First Draft, and A Fistful of Verse.
Writing Our Way to Wellness is a conversational podcast driven by Girls Write Now’s community members of mentees, mentors, and content experts exploring wellness in the art of writing.
Speaking In First Draft is an interview podcast platforming the current and next generation of storytellers from the nonprofit Girls Write Now. Members of the Girls Write Now community share a draft of one of their works in progress and discuss both the writing process and what creative expression looks like to them.
With support from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read Program, Girls Write Now is proud to present A Fistful of Verse, a podcast platforming the work of eight mentees in the Poetry 360 learning journey. Inspired by the poet Ross Gay’s Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, the mentees crafted poems and episodes highlighting a unique blend of joy, sorrow, and optimism for a brighter world.

Introducing the Storykeepers of Girls Write Now
Life@GWN introduces the storykeepers of Girls Write Now—our diverse and multi-talented community members living their lives and embodying our mission.
At Girls Write Now, we know the power of words. But as 2024 Honoree, James C. Rhee, reminds us, sometimes actions speak louder. Reflecting on the lessons learned from his mother, and the modest wisdom of his father, Rhee shares the forces that pushed him to make change in the world, and gave him the power to put pen to paper about his own lessons learned along the way.
Celebrating the release of his first book, red helicopter: a parable for our times out today on HarperOne, Rhee’s words are filled with the power of life-long practice. He shares what it means to act with kindness, embrace confusion and make the world you want to live in.
