MEET MARCI ALBOHER & ROMAISSAA BENZIZOUNE:
What Girls Write Now Has Given Them and How They’re Giving Back

“For years, I’ve been a supporter and champion of Girls Write Now, a mentoring-through-writing program that is a hotbed of intergenerational relationships. I was drawn to this particular community because I felt I had something to offer to young people who are mostly aspiring first-generation college students (like I was), but I get a whole lot more than I give. I now have a collection of young women who are part of my life in various ways — some feel like mentees, some are friends, others are woven into my writing or professional life.“
MARCI ALBOHER
Circle Donor & Mentor Alum
“I joined Girls Write Now as a mentee almost eight years ago, but the organization still makes my life vibrant today. I achieved my first bylines with the help of my mentor Robin Willig and the many other mentors I picked up along the way. I’m lucky to count Marci, photographed with me here, as one of them! Since my time at Girls Write Now, I’ve worked in media and publishing while freelancing, publishing my work in outlets including The New York Times, Teen Vogue, and The Observer, as well as writing my newsletter, One Thing. Without the many friends, mentors, and supporters I met through Girls Write Now, I never would have pursued my dream to become a writer.”
ROMAISSAA BENZIZOUNE
Teaching Artist & Mentee Alum

“I am such a fan of what Girls Write Now does…One of my favorite things about Girls Write Now is just how long the young women are in the organization and working with their mentors and developing their craft.”
