The Book Publishing Journey will take mentees and mentors through the process of traditional book publishing from beginning to end. This is a great opportunity to learn about the publishing industry from employees who work in publishing. Perfect for mentees who would like to be published or work in publishing. With the information gained in Book Publishing, you will be ready to enter the publishing industry as employees and writers. You will have the knowledge you need to create change in an industry that needs your fresh perspectives.
Learning Objectives
- Know and be able to explain the process of publishing a manuscript through traditional publishing.
- Develop a proposal for a work of nonfiction.
- Develop a query letter for a work of fiction.
- Identify the current trends of the publishing world.
- Synthesize a list of dream agents, editors, and publishers.
- Complete one informational interview with a publishing professional.

As a mentee or mentor in the Book Publishing Journey, you’ll have access to an online course designed to help you learn about the publishing industry. You’ll be paired with a mentee or mentor for one full cycle, and you’ll meet with them at least once each month. You’ll attend at least one community engagement experience a month and are encouraged to attend monthly Book Publishing Journey meetings.

Perfect for mentees who would like to be published or work in publishing, this course will take mentees through the process of publishing from beginning (query letters, pitches, proposals) to end (distribution, PR, royalties).

As a mentee or mentor in the Book Publishing Journey, you’ll be paired with a mentee or mentor for one full cycle, and you’ll meet with them at least once each month.
This Journey requires mentees and mentors to commit to at least one pair session per month. If you’d like to mentor but cannot commit to this requirement, click here.
Book Publishing Community Experiences
As a mentee or mentor in the Book Publishing Journey, you’ll attend at least one community engagement experience a month and are encouraged to attend monthly Book Publishing Journey meetings (dates TBD).

Publish 360 Adventure
The Book Publishing is a part of the Publish 360 Adventure.
