Learning Objectives
- Describe the stages of the editing process and explain the importance of each stage in improving a written piece
- Identify and correct common grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors in your own writing and in the writing of others
- Revise your writing to improve clarity, coherence, and overall readability
- Give and receive constructive feedback during peer review sessions, applying the feedback to improve your writing
- Explain how editing fits into the broader context of the publishing process and its impact on the final product

- Have at least 1 pair session with a mentee/mentor per month
- Attend at least 1 suggested Community Experience per month
- Complete the Editing Fundamentals Course
- Submit 1 edited piece to be published on Girls Write Now’s website
Perspectives on Editorial Package
As a mentee or mentor in the Perspectives on Editorial Journey, you’ll have access to an online course designed to help you learn about editing as an essential aspect of the writing process. You’ll be paired with a mentee or mentor for one full cycle, and you’ll meet with them at least once each month. You’ll attend at least one community engagement experience a month and are encouraged to attend monthly Workshopping Studios or Intersectional Voices in Editorial Committee Meetings.
Perspectives on Editorial -Courses
The Perspectives on Editorial Journey offers a course designed to support you in growing your editorial skills.
- Editing Fundamentals
This course guides you through the process of editing your creative work. You’ll learn how to find readers for your work, avoid common grammatical mistakes, fighting imposter syndrome and more.

Perspectives on Editorial -Mentoring
Perspectives on Editorial and mentors in the Perspectives in Editorial Journey will be matched for one cycle. Pairs will meet for at least one hour-long session each month.
The Perspectives on Editorial Journey requires two hour-long pair sessions per month. If you’d like to mentor but cannot commit to this requirement, click here.
Perspectives on Editorial -Community Experiences
Mentees and mentors in the Perspectives in Editorial Journey must attend at least one Community Experience per month. It is strongly recommended that they attend IVEdit (Intersectional Voices in Editorial) Studios or Workshopping/Critique Studios. Each participant will select to attend IVEdit Studios or Workshop/Critique Studios for the duration of the cycle.
IVEdit Studios:
At these studios, participants discuss stories and perspectives relevant to the Girls Write Now community through an editorial lens.
Workshopping/Critique Studios:
At these studios, individuals present their work to a group of peers for feedback, evaluation, and constructive criticism.
This journey requires attendance at one of the above community engagement experiences per month. If you’d like to attend engagement experiences but cannot commit to these requirements, click here.

The Perspectives on Editorial Journey is a part of the Edit 360 Adventure.
Journeys in the Edit 360 Adventure focus on editing as an essential aspect of writing and creating.
