‘How Did I Get Here?’ – Episode 1: Lucy King

“How Did I Get Here?” is a podcast about the different stories of women in media and their career journeys. This episode highlights Lucy King, an Emmy award-winning documentary producer who started out in neuroscience. 

Process

When Stevie and I were brainstorming about what we would want to do our podcast on, we immediately both connected to the idea of exploring powerful career women in the media industry. I, as an ambitious mentee who wishes to delve in media in the future, and Stevie, as a successful journalist/producer who is familiar with media, decided that this topic idea would be perfectly suitable for both of our interests. Throughout December, we compiled a list of potential interviewees before settling on Lucy King for this episode. Her story about transitioning from neuroscience into media fascinated me, for it was a unique career transformation that you don’t come across everyday. I held the pre-interview with King that month, and got to know her even more as a person and producer. Then in January, Stevie and I held the interview with King together, which was a fruitful conversation of 45 minutes where we talked about King’s travels, career change, crazy experiences, climbing the ladder in the media industry, and any other pieces of advice she may have for the younger generation. Stevie and I cut the conversation into this 10 minute excerpt, using Anchor for the background music.
