This poem expresses a deep longing that the author had for a longtime friend.

I love you
I love you I love you
I love. I love.

I

love you more than the moon loves the stars
More than flowers love the rain
My ears yearn for your laughter more than
My lungs yearn for air

My mind can only seem to properly function
When I think of you
Your messy autumn brown hair
Your honeycomb eyes
Your borderline idiotic questions
God
I just can’t get enough of you
and there is no description
Old or new
that can ever portray
How I absolutely adore you

but most importantly
I love you so much that I am glad
you are able to find love in someone else

Process

I came up with this poem after scrolling through the dms of a friend and old crush. Reading these messages and realizing what could have been I was quickly overwhelmed with emotions. So I decided to write a poem as a sort of therapeutic process in order to express myself. Later on I decided to make some structure changes to the poem in order to properly emphasize the emotions I felt while writing this.
