In partnership with NBCU, this exclusive event welcomed rising high school juniors and seniors from Girls Write Now and other organizations to explore careers, gain industry insights, and network with professionals in the media and entertainment industry.
The first day kicked off with a guided NBCU Studio Tour led by NBCUniversal’s Pages, young ambassadors who assist in a wide range of areas, from audience services to talent relations. Mentees received a behind-the-scenes look at TV production, visiting the sets of hit shows like Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Kelly Clarkson Show. Along the way, they learned about the day-to-day work of Pages and other professionals who bring television to life.
After the tour, mentees had the chance to connect more personally with NBCU employees through informational interviews over lunch, where staff from various departments generously shared their career journeys and insights. The day wrapped up with a fun, fast-paced scavenger hunt around the building, encouraging collaboration while exploring diverse departments. For example, one NBCU employee worked on the Ads Standard Team, where she played the exciting role of screening original programming on popular NBC shows such as SNL. Every employee the mentees met was incredibly welcoming and open, creating a space where curiosity was encouraged and questions were met with thoughtful, enthusiastic responses. “I had a really great experience at the Camp. I particularly enjoyed getting to meet mentors from all walks of life and being able to connect with them and ask them questions. They were a valuable resource, I got to learn a lot from them, and had great conversations,” Mentee Sara Liu said.
“As a kid who grew up watching lots of TV shows, experiencing the production process live made me appreciate the creativity that goes on behind the scenes.”

On the second day, mentees visited the Paley Center for Media, where they took a course on the Art of Persuasion. In today’s media-driven world, understanding how companies market their products is more important than ever. From logos and slogans to colors and messaging, persuasive techniques shape the way we recognize and connect with famous brands. Learning how to spot and analyze these strategies not only sharpens media literacy but also empowers mentees to craft their own voices and identities. By applying this knowledge, they created vision boards using persuasive design elements to visualize the pathway towards personal dreams and aspirations for the future.
“As a kid who grew up watching lots of TV shows, experiencing the production process live made me appreciate the creativity that goes on behind the scenes. I had never considered working in media and entertainment before, but after seeing how every role comes with its unique skill sets that contribute to the company’s growth and success, I feel more drawn to the possibilities of working at NBCU,” Mentee Wing Yee Chan said.
