Madeline Berberian-Hutchinson is a poet and artist from Brooklyn, New York, studying Art History at Yale University. She was a 2023 NYS and NYC Youth Poet Laureate Finalist, and her work has been published by Girls Write Now, the New York Public Library, and Rough Cut Press. She has recently received awards for her poetry by The City College of New York, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and Penguin Random House. She is the 2024 winner of the Young Armenian Poets Award and 92NY Teen Arts Award. She has performed at notable venues such as Federal Hall, The New York Public Library, and the Guggenheim Museum.

This piece was selected as an Honorable Mention in the First Chapters Contest, hosted in partnership with Penguin Random House and Electric Lit. This piece is intended to be the first chapter of a larger, semi autobiographical body of work that essentially criticizes the archetypes of men that have frustrated me throughout my life.
