Introducing our new monthly book club #GirlsReadNow!
Each month, we’ll be choosing a new book by a female author to read and discuss. We hope for the books to appeal to a wide range of audiences, encompassing everything from YA to graphic novels. #GirlsReadNow involves our followers even more in what we’re doing, helping to cultivate both an interest in reading and a sense of community across our platforms.
This August, we’re reading Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give, the #1 New York Times YA Bestselling book focusing on teen girl Starr Carter and her involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement after her best friend, Khalil, is killed by police. Starr battles her desire to stay under-the-radar at her suburban prep school with her need to raise her voice and speak out for what she believes is right. The Hate U Give is making headlines everywhere for opening up a conversation about racism and police violence, changing not only the way we approach social issues, but the entire face of YA literature.
Follow along with us this month as we read and join in the conversation on our Facebook page by commenting or tagging your posts with #GirlsReadNow! We will be posting regular updates with our progress and thoughts as we read. We can’t wait to read with you!
