Poetry Rising: Voices from Latin America
Explore the voices representing Latin America in their poetry! Mentors and mentees will read poems that reflect on love, identity, and social change. Alongside reading, participants will write their own poems inspired by these works, experimenting with rhythm, imagery, and voice. Through discussion and creative practice, they’ll discover how poetry can express both personal and collective experience!

Apply Now- JOURNEY REQUIREMENTS
- Cycle(s) 1 Cycle (3 months, March 1 – May 31)
- Time Commitment 3h/month
- Journey Meetings Attend monthly Journey meetings–see dates listed further down.
- Mentoring Have a minimum of two one-hour pair sessions per month.
- Journey Project Submit 3-5 poems inspired by the Journey
Learning Objectives
Poetry Rising: Voices from Latin America Community Experiences
Participants are required to attend one Journey Live Meetings each month throughout the cycle. Additionally, you can schedule 1:1 office hours with the Journey Instructor for individual assistance as needed.
Spring Cycle Journey Meetings:
• Saturday, March 7th, 2026, 1-3pm ET
• Saturday, April 4th, 2026, 1-3pm ET
• Saturday, May 9th, 1-3pm ET
If you’re unable to attend a Journey meeting, you must notify your Staff Lead in advance and attend a community event to make up for it—strongly recommended options for this journey include Leadership Community Studios, Community Conversations, and Career Chats.

Poetry Rising: Voices from Latin America Courses
In this course, mentees will dive into the world of Latin American poetry. We’ll read powerful poems, engaging with past and present poets reshaping the craft today. We’ll look at how poets have used language to explore identity, love, revolution, nature, and the search for freedom. Through live sessions and a carefully curated course, mentees will experiment with voice, rhythm, and imagery through the lense of Latinx poetry!
Poetry Rising: Voices from Latin America Mentoring
Mentees and mentors in this Journey will be matched for a minimum of one cycle. Pairs will meet for at least two hour-long sessions each month. This journey is open to both mentor/mentee pairs and peer-to-peer pairs.

Journeys in the Multigenre 360 Adventure focus on writing in a particular genre. It is perfect for mentees and mentors who want to focus on a specific kind of creative writing.

The Power of Punchlines: Stand-Up Comedy for Change (Spring-Summer 2025)
In this 2-cycle journey, participants will explore the power of comedy as a tool for social change, with a special focus on stand-up comedy. From climate change and economic inequality to LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, and mental health, you'll learn how to write and perform material that blends humor with meaningful social critique. Through workshops and performance coaching, you’ll develop your own comedic voice. Discover how satire and personal storytelling can raise awareness, inspire dialogue, and challenge the status quo— all while keeping your audience laughing. By the end of the journey, you'll have developed a 5 -10-minute stand-up routine that not only entertains but sparks meaningful conversations about the world around us. Comedy is a form of intelligence, whether you’re new to comedy or a seasoned performer, this journey will help you use humor as a force for social impact.

The Careers for Creatives: Unexpected Opportunities Journey is perfect for mentees and mentors who are looking to turn their passion for storytelling, content creation, or journalism into a career. Through a dynamic online course, mentoring sessions, and live networking events, you will explore various career paths available to writers today, learn practical skills to help you succeed, and discover how to build a sustainable career that aligns with your interests and strengths. Read: Memoir (Spring 2025)
Each cycle, we’ll close read a new book and discuss it at monthly fixed meetings. We’ll focus, in particular, on reading as writers and taking note of the ways each author crafts their story. This cycle, we'll be reading How to Say Babylon: A Memoir by Safiya Sinclair.
