Birthday Anxiety

I turned 25 on February 6, and I felt like I didn’t have much to show for it, but I realized I was letting my anxiety get the best of me.

But I realize My gift is life, to share the fate of existing Taking steps of firsts, in this new age

I am to be loved, a day in celebration
from the time bakers lay each letter on frosting.
As loved as a name is used before the person enters the world.
Another year of living, of wonder, to think of what to contribute.
Expectations on clouds and scene above from those who were not aware
Conscious around strangers, family feels like danger, when you have nothing to show.
But I realize my gift is life, to share the fate of existing
Taking steps of firsts, in this new age.

Process

I was inspired to write this piece because I have never been published before. I don’t show my work much for others to read and thought this would be a good start.
