Confirmed-Rosemary

By Jayli Milan Christopher

Confirmed-Rosemary is a culmination of all my literary triumphs. It includes crowd favorites like “God is a Girl” and girlhood poems like “Growing Pains”—old to new, each making history.

Process

When I was introduced to Glitch at Girls Write Now’s orientation, I knew making my own portfolio website would be of great import… and super cool. I used my limited coding knowledge to add all my finished pieces to the website. Thereafter, I visited the New-York Historical Society Tech Commons for help with Style CSS, the part of the code that controls color, font, margins, etc. After many error screens, I was very relieved when I finally got my website to look lovely and operate smoothly.

Meet the Pair

Mentee Jayli Milan Christopher & Mentor Isabel Stanish

Jayli Milan’s Anecdote: When I met Isabel I discovered what true listening and pointed feedback sounded like… Isabel has become my confidante, my fellow wearer of the flyest petty boots.

Isabel’s Anecdote: As soon as I met Jayli, and saw she was taller than me and rocking Doc Martens that almost reached her knee, I knew we’d get along. From that day on, she’s only continued to impress me with her confidence, creativity, and incredible G-Cal skills (sometimes I question who’s the mentor and who’s the mentee!). She shows the kind of insight and patience with new ideas and the habits of humanity that usually come from a much older person. I am so proud to call Jayli my mentee, and can’t wait for all we will continue to learn together.
