Goodnight.

By Saony Castillo

My mind tends to wander when it’s dark and I’m alone, this is a sort of letter to myself, to the part of me that keeps me up at night.

My chest feels heavy
My red bloodshot eyes stare back at me. Right now, in this moment, do I exist?
If I do, then why does it hurt so bad?

Why are you hurting me for breathing?

Why do you only appear when I'm all alone?

Why do you mask yourself in the presence of others?

Please let me sleep, I'm tired.
Go away.
I want to sleep.
Stop invading all my thoughts and dreams. I gave you no permission.
Let me sleep.
I can live without you, but you can't say the same. If it's you or me, then I'll go.
I'm going to sleep now.
Stay away.
Goodnight.
