Hold On

By Kaya Middleton-Grant

Hold On is a song that can mean different things to different people. I am someone who tends to carry her emotional baggage around with her. It sits heavy on my back and pulls me away from being the person that I am capable of being. I wrote this song to remind myself that true happiness cannot be found in the perfection of the imperfect world we live in.

Don’t be paralyzed by the signs that you can’t read. Trust yourself; trust what you believe.

Process

This song has a lot of sentimental meaning because I wrote it when I was going through a pretty hard time mentally. When I was thinking about what to do for this year’s digital media showcase, I knew I wanted to incorporate music into my project, so my mentor and I decided to make a music video for my original song. We first planned the video so it corresponds with the emotion depicted by the lyrics of the song, then spent a weekend filming and several sessions editing the piece.
