My Home

By Anaee Mero

When you think about living in the Bronx you may conjure up a vision of a nasty place. For me, it’s just the opposite; it’s a place of peace and comfort. I really hope my photographs and video get this message across.

Process

At first, I had trouble deciding which media would work best to help me describe my neighborhood. It was important to me that people could see the Bronx the way I see it—as a genuinely complicated and beautiful place. I used VN Video Editor, and I feel proud about what I’ve made.

Meet the Pair

MENTEE ANAEE MERO & MENTOR LAURA LITWIN

Anaee’s Anecdote: Getting to talk about things in our sessions every week that really excite me and introduce them to Laura—things like my favorite music (yay BTS!) and my closest friends and my plans for the summer—and to see that she was truly interested and enthusiastic and wanted to know more, that means a lot.

Laura’s Anecdote: When Anaee comes bounding into our coffee shop talking a mile a minute, her phone in her hand, already shuffling through the pictures she wants me to see that illustrate her week’s news, there’s nothing better. It was easy for us to figure out how her writing would jibe with Girls Write Now’s theme this year. Anaee is staking her own place in history, heart, eyes, and arms wide open!
