Things About Me

In these few slides, I am being fully vulnerable in telling my audience about myself—with funny remarks, of course. I share the emotions that I have about my life and just how crazy it is. What sparked my inspiration for this project was the desire to share the experiences and thoughts I’ve had in my short life. This project shows how much I improved this year. In the beginning, I was hesitant to share these things about myself. I feel like I came a long way, being as open as I was in this project.

Process

In the process of creating this project, I did a lot of personal reflection and tried to figure out what means the most to me. In this time, I found that I really have a passion for fashion, I love to draw, and writing is one of my favorite hobbies. The idea to create a slideshow revealing things about me came from the fact that I (1) love making slideshows, and (2) I like learning more about myself and sharing some of my thoughts. This was also my first time using Canva, and I absolutely loved it.

Mentee Maxine Babb & Mentor Agnes Bannigan

Maxine’s Anecdote: Agnes shows me that women can do anything they put their minds to by being adventurous and trying new things all the time. She definitely takes her place in history by being a dedicated athlete and an even better writer. She also shows that women can do anything men can do. Agnes, many other women, and I have experienced toxic masculinity and it needed to be brought to light. Toxic masculinity is a real thing and can be dangerous in some instances. Let’s all come together and take our places in history by showing men who the bosses are!

Agnes’ Anecdote: If any girl is primed to take her place in history and make a mark on the future, it’s my mentee Maxine. In her second year at Girls Write Now, she continues to be courageous and sharp in her writing and her commitment to amplifying girls’ and women’s voices. Her writing is always pushing limits. Her anthology piece in particular uses suspense fiction to explore how toxic masculinity is a dangerous epidemic, a powerful and creative commentary on the past and a call to action for our future. As we like to say, “The future BEEN female!”
