Writing My World:
Window Into Our Lives

By Megumi Jindo & Madeline Wallace

Writing My World: Window Into Our Lives is a small multimedia project in which weve selected three pieces we’ve written and two books that have been significant in our lives.

We knew that we wanted to do this project together, and came to the decision to create something that was reflective and self-referential. We’ve spent a lot of time discussing books we’ve loved and examining the way writing evolves, so it felt natural to bring those two together. In delving into the works of others and our own pieces, we hope to showcase and explore the closely interconnected relationship between what we read and what we write.

Process

In the beginning, for their multi-media project, Maddie and Megumi had decided to do an audio/writing/photography-incorporated slideshow but Megumi thought doing an audio piece might be too much. She then came up with the idea of a website and they went for it because it was still interactive and fit the requirement as a multi-media project and they both had experience in creating a website! The only problem was how to make it easily readable and interactive.

But then, Maddie brought up an aesthetic of keeping it black and white—simple but sweet—and so they went with it! In making their website, they wanted to also really emphasize how much the books that they read have impacted their writing and their very beings. They had a lot of fun getting to explore their writing pasts and presents together!
