Girls Write Now Produces Noteworthy Video as part of NBCU’s Creative Impact Lab
New York, NY – December 7, 2023
Girls Write Now began partnering with NBCUniversal more than ten years ago, with both organizations focused on empowering the next generation of storytellers. Serving as a pipeline of diverse new talent into media and entertainment, Girls Write Now engages NBCU employees as mentors, and refers mentee candidates for jobs and internships in media. In November, we honored the leaders of NBCU’s incredible corporate social responsibility team at the Girls Write Now Awards, and today we are thrilled to release a video we collaborated on with Reel Works highlighting the Girls Write Now community which came to life through NBCU’s Creative Impact Lab.
Among those featured in the video is mentee alum and current mentor, Antonia Bruno. Now an Assistant Deputy Public Defender, she explains how she uses the storytelling skills she learned as a mentee in her work: “When I’m writing a sentencing memo to the judge, that’s my opportunity to tell my client’s story.”
Giving the gift of mentorship back to Girls Write Now, her mentee, Nishat Raihana, says, “I see Antonia as more than a mentor—I see her as a friend.”
NBCUniversal’s Creative Impact Lab is an award-winning initiative of NBCUnites, the company’s corporate social impact brand. The Creative Impact Lab harnesses NBCUniversal’s storytelling expertise and highlights important work of nonprofit partners, such as Girls Write Now. NBCU provides grants to nonprofit creative agencies, such as Reel Works, comprised of student apprentices from underrepresented communities. Apprentices gain invaluable hands-on experience working on Creative Impact Lab projects and receive creative guidance from NBCUniversal employee mentors during the project. Final :30 videos produced in the Lab receive powerful exposure across the networks and platforms of NBCUniversal and Comcast.
We are honored to work with the Lab as a nonprofit client, collaborating with Reel Works and NBCUniversal creative executives on marketing videos that tell the story of our work, which has grown tremendously since our inception 25 years ago into a national force.

I wouldn’t have shared my work with anybody if it wasn’t for Girls Write Now.
