This spring, our Digital Media Mentoring pilots culminated in the publication of our first-ever e-zine. What’s an ezine, you ask? It’s an interactive, dynamic, living collection of our girls’ and mentors’ first forays into Creative Publishing. In it, they’ve embellished their stories and poems with fonts, images, layouts, graphics, and more.
The e-zine showcases original work that dares to explore the new world of digital self-expression. In partnership with Parsons the New School for Design, we took on InDesign to digitize our writing for the first time. And even better? The e-zine is just the beginning: this fall, we’re taking our Digital Media Mentoring Program to scale.
We’re matching aspiring teen writers with diverse, passionate and talented multimedia enthusiasts, dynamic storytellers, educators, and more. Together we’ll embark on a journey of creative workshops, public readings and showcases, and opportunities for publication, all to give girls the tools to advance their writing through digital media.
We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Parsons the New School for Design, and look to the future with leadership funding from the MacArthur-funded Hive Digital Media Learning Fund in the New York Community Trust.
