Bold effort will deepen and expand services in sports, education, the arts and leadership development for more than 1,000 girls citywide.
Girls Write Now is beyond thrilled to announce our participation in the STARS Citywide Girls Initiative, funded at $1 million by the New York City Council. In collaboration with five leading NYC nonprofits, the initiative will offer the City of New York a unique opportunity to support the healthy development of thousands of girls and young women of color in the coming year. It will help girls and young women of color overcome barriers to success, grow emotionally, academically and physically stronger, and develop as leaders in their communities.
And we couldn’t be in better company. We’re proud to share this opportunity with Groundswell, Lower Eastside Girls Club, PowerPlay NYC, Row New York, and Sadie Nash—all leaders in after-school and summer programming.
Maya Nussbaum, our Founder and Executive Director, had this to say about the new initiative: “This is an important moment for girls as they get funding they very much need and deserve. We are grateful to the City Council and honored to be in the company of five empowering girl-based nonprofits–our girls are New York City’s ambassadors for hope. Their voices change the world.”
