This post was written by Sara Heegaard about the 2015 Girls Write Now Awards on May 19, 2015.
We’re counting down the days until the 2015 Girls Write Now Awards on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Three Sixty° Tribeca, where we’ll honor the women who are helping the next generation of writers. At last year’s awards, we honored the incredible Gloria Steinem, Dawn L. Davis, and Roberta Kaplan. This year, we’re thrilled to celebrate Pamela Paul, Editor of The New York Times Book Review, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of Americanah and We Should All Be Feminists, and Juju Chang, Co-Anchor of NBC News Nightline with emcee Mariane Pearl, journalist and Managing Editor of Chime for Change.
We’re so excited to present such an awe-inspiring group of women writers and thinkers. Time and time again, these women affirm the power of the female voice by telling their own incredible stories – and their support for young women’s writing makes them all the more awe-inspiring.
Voice to Voice: The Girls Write Now 2015 Anthology
Our 2015 anthology will be soft-launched at this year’s event, with a foreword by Mariane Pearl, anintroduction by Tiphanie Yanique, author of Land of Love and Drowning, and praise from JujuChang, Isaac Fitzgerald, Janet Mock, Quiara Alegría Hudes, Robin Morgan, Emily St. John Mandel, Lynn Melnick, Sarah Ruhl, Andrea Davis Pinkney, Bridgett M. Davis, among many more.
Bridgett M. Davis, author of Into the Go-Slow says of the anthology:
“Girls of color often contend withothers speaking for them, about them, at them. How wondrous that Girls Write Now has given these girls the discovery tools to speak for themselves, and just as importantly, to be heard by us. The complex, varied voices here are each a solo performance, yet come together in a rich chorus of affirmation and validation. Girls’ lives matter, and we are lucky to have this collection of personal stories reminding us the myriad ways in which they do.”
