Mood Ring
By Jaya Rao-Herel
I mess up my mood by overthinking…
I mess up my mood by overthinking
Constructed stories in my black mood ring
I popped all my floats got myself sinking
Pull me to shore? No, I cut the off string
better move fast because the weight’s getting heavy
too much to bare. it’s making me sweaty
know it’s not real but It’s leaving me grumpy
It’ll stay between us, but where’s my hush money?
Sway back from down the tide helped me over
But the fake feels so real and now I want closure
Tainted view of the past I’m a liar
But now the sun gone and my mind is solar
Ceiling of my mind is falling
sincere is off sprawling
can’t keep up with head
Fragments breaking off of reason
It’s me that I am teasing
with what I wished I said
Process
Mood Ring began as a poem which I then set to music. It developed in a free-flowing manner, taking shape as I sat at my piano and toyed with melodies. I began recording a first draft at the beginning of this year, and—with Amanda’s help—used audimation tools, effects, and mastering programs to finalize this product in LOGIC. Everything you hear in this song was written, recorded, and tracked by me. Enjoy!
