Girls Write Now celebrated the release of our two latest books and our community’s recent achievements with a summer showcase and launch party!
New York, NY – June 28, 2024
On Friday evening, the Girls Write Now community gathered at our Midtown headquarters to celebrate the release of our two latest books, Girls Write Now Here & Now: 2024 Anthology (Penguin Random House) and Girls Write Now on the Art of the Craft: A Guidebook to Collaborative Storytelling (HarperCollins), with readings from mentees and a presentation of multimedia work like podcasts, videos, and visual art.
The program began with opening lines focused on encouraging attendees to reflect on how far they have come this year with Girls Write Now, including the ways they have felt supported, what they have learned, joys they have experienced, and meaningful connections they have made. We then moved on to acknowledgements for all mentees and mentors, including long-term community members, as well as graduating students.
Two veteran pairs, Nicole Itkin + Holli Harms and Kiki Tom + Isabella Japal, spoke about their relationships and the impact of experiencing the Girls Write Now community together. Kiki and Isabella were also recently featured in a 30-second PSA about the power of mentorship.
The in-person mentee performers of the night were Yasmin Sadeh Brosh, Jamilah Araf, Faiza Chowdhury, Morgan Lin, and Shreya Darji. Mentees Manar Yaseen, Allahna Johnson, Salma Elhandaoui, and Heeseo Yoon performed virtually.
Afterward was a multimedia showcase highlighting mentees’ media work across the Learning Journeys Poetry 360, Lead 360 and Print 360.
The rest of the night included a sneak peek of future programming, a spirited game of Kahoot with prizes, announcements for upcoming events, and plenty of time for attendees to mingle and connect with each other.
Congratulations to all members of our community for their hard work this year!
