Explore the creative and storytelling pathways Girls Write Now offers through a multimedia, multi-genre experience with mini courses, exploratory studios, and one-on-one pair sessions. Build new skills and deepen existing ones across fiction, journalism, publishing, and formats like video, podcasting, and visual storytelling. Ideal for Mentees working across media or focused on specific projects, this Journey offers the flexibility to tailor your learning experience to your goals.

Within our ever-growing digital landscape, video has become one of the main mediums through which people absorb content, share their thoughts, and tell their stories. The reach that a compelling video can have is enough to entertain, spark meaningful discussions, and/or create change. To ensure that your message or story achieves its full potential, it is important to understand the three key stages of video production: pre-production, production, and post-production. In this mini-course, we will take a closer look at these three stages and explore the aspects of video creation that contribute to compelling content.
Learning Objectives
Explore Tour Journey Learning Objectives:
- Strengthen Multi-Genre Writing Skills: Build and refine your craft across genres such as fiction, journalism, and publishing.
- Explore Multimedia Storytelling: Engage with diverse formats like video, podcasting, and visual storytelling to expand your creative expression.
- Grow Through Collaborative Learning: Participate in mini courses, exploratory studios, and one-on-one pair sessions to grow with the support of mentors and peers.
- Personalize Your Creative Journey: Tailor your learning experience to your individual goals and projects across genres and media.
Video Fundamentals Mini-Course Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will have:
- Gained an understanding of video fundamentals
- Identified and described the essential steps of the pre-production, production, and post-production stages
- Explored how to implement various narrative techniques
- Developed a comprehensive plan to bring a video concept to life
- Evaluated video projects through self-assessment, and identify areas to improve for future work
Requirements
- Complete at least 2 pair sessions per month and log these in your Portal
- Attend at least one Community Experience per month (see Engagement Dates )
- Complete all lessons and assignments of at least two mini online Explore Tour courses (see Asynchronous Coursework )
- Submit at least one piece through the Submissions section in the Portal to be published on your Author Page
Engagement Dates
In the Explore Tour Journey you are required to attend at least one community event a month. You can choose from events such as Community Studios, Affinity Groups, Career Chats, Friday Night Salons, Community Conversations, and more. Asynchronous Coursework

Submissions
You are required to submit one piece of any genre through your portal by the end of the cycle in order to successfully complete the Explore Tour Journey. To meet the submission requirement for the Explore Tour Course, go to your Portal and select “Submissions”.
