Hello! Welcome to, Building Foundations for English Language Learners & Writers, one of the writing components of the Building Foundations for English Language Learners & Writers journey. This course is designed to help develop how you explore your history, stories, and lived experiences in English whether that be your first, second, or third language! With the support of this course, you will acquire the concrete written skills needed to feel confident and excited to birth new worlds or convey your own! Specific topics range from grammar & vocabulary, editing and proofreading your own work, and your will gain tips and tricks for engaging with your writing.

Mentorship
You are in one of the following pair types. You pair type is listed on your GWN Portal profile.
- Type 1: Mentor/Mentee: Meet 2-3 times per month and, as a pair, attend one of the engagement events listed below at least once per month.
- Type 2 : Peer-to-Peer: Meet 2 times per month and, as a pair, attend one of the engagement events listed below at least once per month.

Submissions
Choose a piece that you wrote early on in your language journey and use it as your first draft. Applying everything that you learned or reviewed in this course, rewrite this piece. Allow your sharpened writing skills to elevate what you already have.
After rewriting the piece, reflect on your process for writing, editing, and proofreading. What did you do differently this time around? Which part of the course did you revisit the most while working on your piece? What do you enjoy most about this new version?
Submit:
1. the piece you’ve chosen to edit & the new/edited draft.
3. a one page reflection on your process of re-editing your old work.

First Submission:
Please submit a PDF including your original piece and the newly edited piece. Please ensure that the submission is written in Times New Roman with a 12pt font.
