Mentor Midyear

Mentor Midyear Workshop: Journaling as Healing

Mentor Midyear

Saturday, Jan. 7
3-5 PM ET

online event; strongly recommended for mentors across all programs

Come bond with your fellow mentors at this mentor-only wellness-focused workshop where you’ll explore writing as an integrative process that benefits the brain, the mind, the body, and the immune system.

Together, we’ll explore the power of writing to relieve stress, process emotions, enhance creativity, and tap into intuition through journaling methods such as stream of consciousness, narrative writing, and inner child healing. Plus, we’ll discuss the ways that writing about trauma and sensitive topics can be healing when approached in the correct manner and what to do when dark topics show up in mentees’ writing.

Join us for an afternoon of wellness, community, and fun as you socialize with other mentors and get to know each other!

Nehanda Thom

Nehanda Thom

Nehanda Thom is a first generation American, born and raised in Brooklyn, with parents hailing from the West Indies. When Neh isn’t seeing clients as a psychotherapist, exploring parks within New York City or reading self-help books, she’s writing maniacally in the notes on her phone, as she often thinks faster than she can record her words. Nehanda is a recent graduate of Nyack College, with a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling, holds certifications in Substance Abuse Counseling, Recovery Coaching and Recovery Peer Advocacy and is a published author, having recently celebrated 2 years since the release of her first book, The Monument. Neh takes pride in the fact that she is not only a mentor at Girls Write Now, but also an alum of the program, having written two pieces for the 2011 mentee anthology.
