    Everything’s a Story: Writing Nonfiction That Reads Like Fiction

    Get ready to get inspired! In this studio, you’ll learn how to find the hook of your story and go beyond the basic “who, what, where, when, why.” We’ll debate whether it’s rue that you must “write what you know” and we’ll do some brainstorming to help you mine your life, and the world around you, for great story ideas.

    Voice, Values, & Leadership: College Prep Demystified

    In this studio, participants will learn strategies for portfolio-building, college and career exploration, as well as tips for balancing workload and wellness in high school. Participants will gain access to easy-to-use tools and external resources for further individual research.

    Pink Collar Comedy

    The final studio, How to Handle Hecklers, uses the mnemonic device HUMOR to address hecklers in the workplace. HUMOR engages active listening and critical thinking to disarm facetious or malicious intents.

    IV Edit Print

    I.V. Edit Print Committee focuses on traditional print media at Girls Write Now. This committee is dedicated to producing the yearly anthology that showcases the written work of Girls Write Now mentees. The goal is to provide a tangible platform for storytelling, allowing community members to see their work in print and share it with a wider audience.

    Creating Through Uncertainty

    In this session, sound will be used as a tool for self-reflection and emotional exploration, allowing participants to tune into emotions they may be experiencing or have experienced in the past. Participants will explore creative sound and audio practices such as audio journaling, songwriting, and beat-making.

    Fictional World Building: Creating a World Readers Won’t Want to Leave

    In this lesson, participants will be asked to explore and define the movement and change that happens within fictional worlds and within the fictional world they are creating. The exploration will be fostered by participants looking at fictional worlds and the ways that different elements of storytelling change fictional worlds.

    Expand & Release: Meditative Techniques for Compassionate Writing Practice

    In this interdisciplinary studio, attendees contemplate crises that they feel compassionate toward and develop methods to address them in their writing. Attendees will participate in a meditation and complete writing activities designed to encourage mindfulness of the world around them.
