On October 10, we honored James Rhee, author of red helicopter (HarperOne), R. F. Kuang, author of Babel: An Arcane History (Harper Voyager), and Yellowface (William Morrow), Antonia Hylton, award-winning journalist and author of Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum (Legacy Lit), Anna Klein & The Estée Lauder Companies’ Writing Change team, and Gloria Naftali, Arts Advocate & Philanthropist (in memoriam), at our Fall Awards. Each honoree champions the growth and mentorship of the next generation of writers and leaders in publishing, media, beauty, art, and beyond.
Held at the stunning DVF Studio in the Meatpacking District, honorees and guests spent the evening connecting with each other and celebrating the transformative impact of nearly three decades of breaking down the barriers of gender, age, race, and poverty to empower young women and gender-expansive youth.
Ronald D’Amico, infectious disease physician & trustee of the Raymond and Gloria Naftali Foundation, accepted an award on behalf of Gloria Naftali. Other speakers included mentees Sophia One, Palmares Bustamante, Nicole Itkin, Robyn Lam, mentor Holli Harms, co-anchor of NBC’s Today, Al Roker, author, cultural storyteller, and empowerment speaker, Mikki Taylor, as well as Girls Write Now honoree alum, poet, activist, and Estée Lauder Global Changemaker, Amanda Gorman.
