This Journey explores the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies through a protopian lens—focusing on how innovation can be intentionally shaped toward more equitable, creative, and human-centered futures. Mentees and mentors will examine the possibilities and limitations of AI, engaging in discussions and hands-on explorations that highlight both current applications and future potential. Through critical reflection and creative experimentation, mentees and mentors will consider how technology can be designed and used to expand opportunity, deepen connection, and support more just and imaginative ways of living and creating. Mentees and mentors will strengthen their critical understanding of AI and emerging technologies while deepening their perspective on ethical innovation and human-centered tech practices.

Journey Teaching Artist

Kalki Beadell-Kaplan

Kalki Beadell-Kaplan is a researcher in the cognitive science of Human-AI Systems, with a focus on preserving and growing critical thinking in the age of AI. She holds a master’s from the University of Oxford, where she created a course pathway to study Neuroscience and Buddhism. Currently, she is applying to PhDs in Human-Computer Interaction and is planning to research metacognitive awareness during AI interactions, with a focus on evidence-based design interventions. Kalki is passionate about raising neurobiological awareness in human-centered AI through interface design and user education.

From climate change and economic inequality to LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, and mental health, you'll learn how to write and perform material that blends humor with meaningful social critique. Through workshops and performance coaching, you’ll develop your own comedic voice. Discover how satire and personal storytelling can raise awareness, inspire dialogue, and challenge the status quo— all while keeping your audience laughing. By the end of the journey, you'll have developed a 5 -10-minute stand-up routine that not only entertains but sparks meaningful conversations about the world around us.
