Spring 2027

Teach GWN

In this Journey, members of the GWN community will develop curriculum and facilitate a Community Studio for one or more cycles within GWN’s Collaboratory structure. Each cycle involves facilitating three Community Studios, one per month. Mentees and mentors will gain valuable skills in leadership, teaching, and community building. Mentees and mentors can facilitate a Community Studio either independently (if they are 18 or older) or together as a pair. Through the experience, mentees will build confidence as leaders and educators, while mentors will develop their teaching and facilitation skills, learn effective educational practices, and help cultivate a vibrant, peer-driven learning community.

What Past Participants Have to Say

“The community that Girls Write Now has and how much I learn on a daily basis. Girls Write Now has helped me so much throughout the years with me pushing out work even when times are hard for me.”
Ruby Gabrielle Nicholson Mentee
“The most valuable part of Girls Write Now is the community studios, as they’re a perfect opportunity to connect with other GWN members while also working on your personal skillset. Many community studios also focus on other art forms other than writing or connecting them to writing, encouraging people to build other skills outside of just writing.”

“Girls Write Now provided me a welcoming, relieving, judgement-free space to explore my writing voice, decompress through vulnerable conversations, and build my confidence in teaching.”

“My mentee specifically stated that she wanted to learn more about teaching and how to write lesson plans. We were able to work closely building our lessons together until she eventually was able to complete a lesson plan entirely on her own! She left being a more confident teacher and I watched her take control of our community studios and blossom into a fierce leader.”
Ashley-Anna Aboreden Mentor

All Journeys within the Teach 360 Adventure focus on leadership to help mentees and mentors develop leadership skills and be inspired to create a better future together. Learn more about the other Adventures offered at Girls Write Now below.

STARS: Crafting White Papers for Change (Spring 2026)

In this Journey, Fellows from STARS CGI partner organizations engage in a youth-led writing and advocacy experience that empowers them to turn their experiences into policy-focused narratives. Through in-person and virtual sessions, participants learn to research, write, and collaborate on a White Paper that amplifies youth voices across New York City and advocates for increased support, funding, and policy improvements for youth programs. The Journey builds communication, leadership, and advocacy skills, culminating in a youth-authored White Paper presented to a City Council Member as a public call to action.

The Journey celebrates multilingual voices and empowers participants to honor their perspectives and grow as confident storytellers across cultures.

Hooked on Fiction: Crafting Your First Chapter (Fall 2025)

In this fiction Journey, our curriculum will focus on opening chapters. The first pages of a novel are some of the most daunting for many writers. There's so much to establish in very few pages—the ones your future readers will flip through to decide if they should keep reading. In this journey, we'll deep dive into the varied ingredients that make a compelling first chapter. We'll examine how to use your limited space to build motivated well-rounded characters, craft palpable stakes, establish a fully-realized setting, create a killer hook, and so much more. We'll tackle big questions, like how to know if you are starting in the right place and how to get all this information onto the page without overwhelming your readers. Whether you're starting a story from scratch or already editing a draft of your novel, join us to develop some impactful opening pages.
