My project is a poem that comments on the current administration in a complex and meaningful way. By having the opportunity through erasure poetry to carefully select the words for the poem instead of making up my own words, I felt inspired to create this unique piece. Because of the hard work I put into this poem, I knew that it is among the best works I have done in the program.
Process
When given the opportunity, I knew that I wanted to create a piece that showcased my life for my multimedia project. Poetry has always been my favorite type of writing to read, although I have never before been as confident writing poetry as I am now. Using the storytelling techniques and video editing ideas I learned at Girls Write Now, I was able to create a short video using iMovie and the KineMaster video editing app. After completing my project, I felt satisfied and proud.

Isabel’s Anecdote: Anna and I had to work quickly to catch up on deadlines. Her positive and supportive attitude has made her enjoyable to work with. I am so glad to have someone to support me with my pieces and I am looking forward to the many opportunities we will have to work together throughout the year.
Anna’s Anecdote: Isabel and I were paired together halfway through the year. I’ve been blown away by her candor and willingness to jump into workshopping her creative pieces. She says that she writes to figure stuff out and situate herself in the world. Well, Isabel, I think you’ve got a lot figured out—your strong voice joins the chorus of women poets, writers, and speakers
