Bright Eyes

This poem is dedicated to all the women out there who struggle with the stress of parenting but are still able to find the love that comes from it.

I felt the morning ooze inside me as I stepped out.
Letting out my desire to feel my comforting bed.
How will I start my new beginning with all these doubts,
As your vocals stretched.

I hear you cry and I don’t have to worry about your health.
Because as you are spreading those youthful lungs,
I’ll know you’re alive and well.

But there’s still uncertainty mixed with love.

Would it be right?

If I walked to another place?
Without the screams yelling violently inside me,
Hiding the bruises of life from your eyes and grace.
I need just a little bit of compassion and empathy.

Yet during the day, I know what awaits,
The blazing radiance that is not far from my sight.
I see your all playful and loving traits,
I can see it from your bright eyes.

My love, my hope, and the glow of my day.
Now not just my heart but my legs are going the right way
The only thing keeping me there are your bright eyes.

Process

My inspiration comes from the women in my life. I’ve talked to them and asked them how they feel about being a mom and what keeps them going. I saw my close friend going through a tough time being a teen mom who tries to be optimistic yet realistic at the same time. It’s the pressure at home and for school that almost makes it impossible to get through the day. From their voice I was able to gain a sense that there is always going to be something pushing you down but having the right people surrounding you and taking the time to reflect on yourself can help getting through some of those obstacles.
