Chatty Seagulls

Chatty Seagulls
Art by Maria Osorio with inspiration from Art by Flo

Chatty seagulls is a poem about making every second of your life worthy.

Until completing the cycle of my existence,
I will not give up my dreams,
I will live my life like there was no tomorrow,
I will try new things,
I will leave a legacy.

I will jump from a plane and fly like an eagle,
I will touch the clouds in the sky and feel the freedom,
I will travel across the world and meet new people.

Definitely try to find love,
if that even exists.
Find someone to share the good and the bad,
someone to share a soul with.

Until completing the cycle of my existence,
I will see the beauty around me.
On a normal day,
I will look at the sky,
listen to the sound of the sea,
the waves hitting the rocks.
Chatty seagulls flying through the sky.

I won’t complain about how cold or hot the days are,
I will take them as a gift from Mother Earth.
She is waiting for me to go back to her,
when my existence is complete.

Listen to the beat of my heart,
bump bump, bump bump.

Performance

Process

I started this poem in my free time, while listening to “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes. I have always liked the beat of it. When she says “25 years and my life is still,” I thought, that wasn’t something I wanted to do with my life. I didn’t want to be stuck. I desired to live like every day is my last. That way I would appreciate them and live without fear. I started typing how I feel, what I would like to do, where I want to be and describing it. I ended up having my first draft, I felt it was strong and with my mentor, we decided to continue working on it, adding things that would make it only strong and organizing it in a way that would express what I was feeling.
