Color is…

By Kassidy Samuel-Ancrum

Color is

A piece about what the color purple means to me.

Purple reminds me
of royalty,
calm yet so vibrant.

Purple is the color of the skies
in Black Panther. The Wakanda skies in the after
life are lit up in a vibrant purple T’Challa
visits his ancestors.
A subtle shade that stands out from the rest.

If I could describe myself as a color,
it would be purple.
It brings joy as a cool color on the color
spectrum, at the same time,
so expressive.
When I look at purple it calms me down.

Process

I was given a writing prompt about colors with the given time of five minutes to think about a color and what it means to me. My thought process came to me within that given time of instances where this color deeply connected with me. In the piece I bring up the time in Black Panther where the color of the sky puts me at ease. Having such a calming instance while looking at this color. When I think of royalty, the first color that comes to mind is purple.
