My Hero

By Shania Cox

A daughter’s way of showing her appreciation to her mom.

She is my hero.
By my side since birth
And hasn’t left since.
Exhausted
And alone, she
Persevered.
Now her hard work
Has paid off.
A soon to be Master’s recipient,
Two high school graduates.
No longer needing
to be the hero for the family,
She can finally experience
Her wildest dreams.
Her kids,
Her treasures,
Her pride and joy,
Slowly beginning to leave
The cocoon and blossom
Into three beautiful
Butterflies.
Deserving the world,
I can only give her a state
At most a country.
Her efforts
Never forgotten.
Her words
Joy to my heart
Her existence
Priceless.
She is my mom.
Wise,
Thoughtful,
Beautiful.
She is my hero.

Process

My mom is someone who has been a huge part of my life. She is essentially the glue that holds me together and has made many sacrifices that have crafted me into the individual that I am today. When it comes to truly showing my appreciation to her, it all boils down me just saying three simple words: I love you. However, there are moments when I feel like those words aren’t enough. So, I chose to write it out. By writing this piece, I was able to fully show how I felt about all she’s done for me.
