The Angry Black Girl Podcast

By Sharnice Walker

The Angry Black Girl Podcast is a podcast made by a teenage girl with a lot of opinions and ideas on everything. She wants to get those ideas out there, find the facts, acknowledge different perspectives, and discuss them with her peers.

Process

This idea came from our Girls Write Now podcast workshop. I used Otter and Anchor to record and edit my audio. I learned how to plan and structure a podcast. A challenge for me was actually getting comfortable recording myself and finding the time to do it. I felt proud and accomplished after completing this project.

Meet the Pair

MENTEE SHARNICE WALKER & MENTOR DEENIE MATTHEWS

Sharnice’s Anecdote: Deenie and I meet every Friday at the Girls Write Now headquarters in one of the recording booths and talk about anything and everything on my mind. I’ve come to her with many personal things and she’s helped me deal with a lot of resentment I hold toward my parents. She’s helped me realize my dreams and who I want to be in life. I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor.

Deenie’s Anecdote: I’m continually blown away by Sharnice’s incredible amount of talent and her focus as well as discipline. I was nervous before starting the program, but must say I have been pleasantly surprised. I tend to worry about her because of the challenges that women face in general and the particular challenges Black girls face, but her unflappability and determination to be positive make me confident that she will end up doing just fine. She is a wonderful and unstoppable force!
