The Journey

The Journey

During these times, I learned how important it is to find happiness in the small moments. Reflecting on life pre-pandemic, I was inspired to write about the little things in life that bring me joy.

I knew happiness was a journey rather than a destination when I found bits and pieces of it along the way.
The smallest things sparked instant joy in me.
I realized I hadn’t longed for and wouldn’t miss them after they were gone.
It was laughing uncontrollably over the funniest joke when I hadn’t in the longest.
Someone’s eyes lighting up as they go on and on about what sets their soul on fire.
Losing track of time; getting caught in the moment doing something you love.
When you realize you might miss a moment while you’re living it,
So you make sure to cherish every second.
When things are weirdly working out in your favor,
So you try not to question it
And just let the good times roll.
When you finally face your fears and do that thing you were so afraid to do,
And it doesn’t end up being so scary.
The big drop on a roller coaster; adrenaline rushing throughout your body.
When the weather starts to get warmer
Waves crashing along the shore
Receiving good advice
When your gut is right
Best friends
Random luck
The phrases
“I love you”
“I’m proud of you”
Things I never thought twice about until now.
Happiness is the journey without a destination.

Process

Reflecting on 2020 as a whole, how tough these past months have been, I realized that happiness is a journey rather than a destination. I learned that the littlest things I’m not always seeking out are what matter the most right now. Whether it’s recent good times spent with family and friends, or cherishing old memories. I was inspired to write a poem that compiles all the things that bring a smile to my face.
