The Sun I Love

By Jayla Greenberg

We all feel the need to capture the beauty of nature and preserve it somehow. And videos show the beauty in a moment where it shines best. This video is not one, but many pieces of nature and peace coming together to represent one moment in time. It comes from my view of being in a perfect moment and just taking it in. This video is my greatest multimedia accomplishment because it is vulnerable, and it represents me best.

Process

Previously, I took a great sunset picture and it was a live photo, and I suddenly thought about making a project of short video clips. Later on, I thought a voice-over was the perfect addition. I used iMovie and my phone camera to make it, and I learned how to use the apps too. I found that it was difficult to get the right angles at first, but eventually, I learned. After it was finished, I felt proud to have made something aesthetically pleasing.

Meet the Pair

MENTEE JAYLA GREENBERG & MENTOR CAROLINE K. FULFORD

Jayla’s Anecdote: For two years I’ve been opened up to a world of new experiences. And in that time I’ve been very lucky to learn through them with my mentor Caroline. There’s always something new to expect when it comes to our meetings. From discussing the latest books we’ve read to working on writing and ideas, Caroline has definitely helped me find the author in me. If I have a problem, I know I can go to her for help. Not only do I work with a mentor, but with a great friend.

Caroline’s Anecdote: This is my second year with Jayla, and I can already see how much she has grown—not only as a writer, but as a person. Her growing interest and involvement in mock trial is the best example of her growth. As proud as I am that she writes and expresses herself with more courage, confidence, and fluidity than ever, it’s bittersweet to see Jayla go off on her own, pursuing her interests and making new friends. However, I know that my role is to encourage and support her, and Jayla only ever needed the slightest encouragement to flourish.
