Yesterday I saw a double rainbow

By Mya De La Rosa

The speaker relishes nature and human connection…

birds chirp in the mildew sky,
my eyes aslumber over their blue wings.

black holes spin-splatter my brain,
my neck screams at me.

trees stay, knowing.
nature’s got a crush on me,
and the sinusoidal breeze cradles pink petals,

with cousin Bear,
salt saturates my lungs and Bear
catches my eye,
and I trickle a current of laughter.
there is only the ocean,
you,
and me.

Process

I wrote this poem after the Earth Day workshop with Twitter, adapting my opening lines and the title of our cento poem for this piece. In the thick of school-related projects on black holes, quantum mechanics, and electricity, I wanted to play by complimenting the language of technology and nature.
