Mentee Carina Solis, a sixteen year-old writer from Georgia, has published her chapbook Daughtersong with Bottlecap Press. Her mentor, Robin Messing, author of Holding Not Having and Serpent in the Garden of Dreams, said of the book:

Daughtersong chronicles a family and a girlhood across a stunning and lush landscape of language. Precociously wise and well-made, these works resonated and called to me with their poetic invention and depth of feeling. Each poem holds its own with a singular ambition and willingness to experiment, and at the same time the poems work in concert to create a window into a young life and her legacy. Carina Solis possesses a great gift and a unique voice. I cannot wait to see where her enormous talent takes her.”

Carina is excited for members of the community to read her published work. “I hope that the Girls Write Now community will enjoy this chapbook,” she said. “As women and gender expansive people, we grew up experiencing a restraint on our voices. Not only does this collection explore that silence, I also hope that it will inspire all of us to break it, and create.”
