Scholastic
Every year, Girls Write Now mentees submit their writing to the competitive Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and every year we keep our fingers crossed while the judges consider the thousands upon thousands of entries they receive. Year after year, our girls win — and win big.
We’re excited to congratulate this year’s 22 Gold and Silver Key winners, and our National Gold Medal awardee, Shannon Daniels, who’s work is now ranked among the most outstanding in the nation!
This year, we submitted our highest number of writing submissions yet, racking up a grand total of 142 submissions from 74 mentees — and five of this year’s Gold and Silver Key winners won last year, too. Girls Write Now is proud that our girls’ voices are paving the way for increased access to the Awards for underserved young women in public high schools and low-income neighborhoods. Since beginning our partnership with the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, our mentees have won nearly 150 regional and national awards.
