Girls Write Now staff visited Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School to donate the five most recent volumes of Girls Write Now’s anthologies to the school’s library and to teach a writing workshop for students.

Girls Write Now Fellow Sally Familia, Writing Works Program Manager Margery Hannah, and Community Coordinator Jeanine Marie Russaw enjoyed getting to meet the students and play games, as they were welcomed by Capital Prep Harlem students and staff.

The Girls Write Now staff then led a workshop called Seeds of Disruption: How Storytelling Shakes the Status Quo, focusing on writing as a method for activism and collaboration. Students had the opportunity to engage in lessons around the question “Are we disruptors?,” and practiced their storytelling skills through writing and collaborative improv exercises.

Capital Prep Harlem is currently open for enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year. To learn more and apply, visit https://www.capitalprepharlem.org/.
