July 30, 2026 – New York, NY
Members of the community gathered both in person at Girls Write Now headquarters and virtually to celebrate their work from the past year. The event included collaborative writing activities, and performances from mentees Tania Merolla, Vibu Parambhai, Nailah Araf, La’Tia Owens, Kendel Goonis, Samantha Verdugo, Petra Wong, and Amari Murray.
After a short break, we held a podcast panel featuring two Speaking in First Draft guests, Deb Coffy and Vera Sirota, plus Ysabella Carla Salvino and Ameena Rodriguez from our forthcoming podcast, The Vision Lab.
Deb Coffy appeared on the episode Speaking on Reproductive Justice and spoke with Blair Imani on organizing, intergenerational stories, medical racism, and the power of creativity in activist spaces. Vera Sirota appeared on a special bonus episode of Speaking in First Draft entitled Speaking on the Stories in Our Suitcases which highlighted the stories of immigrants and their families.
Ameena mentored Ysabella through the Lead Incubator Journey as Ysabella created their episode, which brings in Lourdes Macias to discuss education inequality.
The showcase concluded with a heated round of GWN trivia, a group photo, and a hang-out session!
